Questions to Ask Your Surgeon
These are prompts, not a script — bring the ones that matter to you. The FDA's own breast implant surgery page also lists questions to ask about a surgeon's experience, expected outcomes, and recovery.
About your implants and records
- What kind of implants do I have (silicone or saline, smooth or textured), and do you have my records?
- Do you have my operative reports and a device card for my specific implants?
About the procedure
- What procedure are you recommending, and why?
- If a capsulectomy is discussed, which approach are you recommending for my situation, and what are the trade-offs? (See the “Explant & Capsulectomy Terminology” guide.)
- What are the risks and the expected recovery?
About experience and follow-up
- Are you board-certified, and how often do you perform this procedure?
- How will we monitor my implants over time, including imaging for silent rupture?
- What follow-up will I have, and who do I contact with concerns afterward?
